I love Save Us from the Archon. Their guitar driven, instrumental prog-metal/post-hardcore sound has a certain whimsy, and I'm always left feeling sentimental and nostalgic for some reason. At any rate, what I'm getting at is that this band writes great music, and if you like bands such as CHON (see last post), you're doing yourself a disservice by not giving them a listen.

Save Us From the Archon - How terrible, the undergrowth's jaws that tangle
If you enjoy stuff like CHON and Scale the Summit, you'll probably like Save Us From the Archon almost immediately. The Pittsburgh quintet plays an blend of guitar-driven progressive metal and post-hardcore that is both catchy and technical, without any obnoxious clean vox.

Featuring Thomas Erak of The Fall of Troy. If you consider yourself a fan of aforementioned band, I'd be incredibly surprised if you weren't already aware of this new project. Gone are the head spinning riffs and aggressive motifs, which have been abandoned for more rock sensibilities and song writing. Doesn't exactly sound appealing to an average TFoT fan, and it's probably more-or-less what you'd expect. However, there's still a few gems on this album, especially "The Circulatory System" (live footage above taken by my friend and former band-mate, Nick), ''Epiphany," and "No Friend of Mine," along with a couple other moments which are more reminiscent of older material.
Just Like Vinyl's new album, "Black Mass," premieres August 28th.

Czar - Old Haunts
Czar is an awesome band from Washington state, influenced by As the Sun Sets / Daughters, Tower of Rome, and a large variety of other influences. Some might even describe this as post-hardcore/metal/grind due to the eclectic nature of the song-writing and the inclusion of synth.

Underrated and mostly unacknowledged, Discovery of a Lifelong Error left a big impression on California's underground scene. "Giants Orbiting", shown above, is widely regarded as their best work. Members of this band, Corey (vocals) and Ben (guitar), have since gone on to join the post-hardcore act, A Lot Like Birds.
The "Creatures" EP features Marcos of Galaga: The Movie on guitar.
